Opening hours aren't listed, so you need to call before visiting. As soon as you walk in, you see them wrapping dishes covered in plastic wrap. I didn't know there were still places that packed takeout in boxes, dishes and all. The interior feels like time has stood still, but surprisingly, the kitchen is very clean. The catch is that the tables aren't. Ordered the tangsuyuk and ganjajang. The ganjajang is properly prepared, freshly stir-fried in a hot wok the moment you order. Ganjajang usually splits into the dry style or the veggie-heavy juice style; this is the latter, so it's easy to mix. The salinity is low, and the focus is on the nuttiness and wok-hei, so it doesn't get salty even with plenty of sauce. Actually, that's beside the point, as you don't have time to notice the sweetness or saltiness before the wok-hei hits you like a bomb. I've traveled around looking for good ganjajang, but I've never seen such intense wok-hei. You might think it's burnt, but it isn't—if it were, the bitter aftertaste would've been a dead giveaway. This is pure, exploding wok-hei. The veggies and meat in the sauce have good texture, there's no gamey smell, and the combination of meat fat and wok-hei creates an even stronger intensity. I usually prefer dry ganjajang, but my preference didn't matter because the taste was so ecstatic. For the tangsuyuk, they didn't compromise by using lean cuts but fried fatty cuts instead, which is probably why there's a slight odor. It's not severe enough that the sweet sauce or soy sauce can't mask it, but I don't think I'd order it again. I only came for the ganjajang, so I never considered the jjamppong, but after seeing the one at the next table, it looked pretty good. I'll probably order one if I visit again. The wok-hei is so intense that it's bound to be polarizing, but if you're crazy about wok-hei, it's worth the trip to Yangchon-myeon. Since it's in a hard-to-reach area, I recommend dropping by while checking out the nearby brewery.
