I ordered: Garlic Soy Sauce Jokbal (small) (30,000 won) Mul-makguksu (regular) (8,000 won) The jokbal is covered in a garlic soy sauce loaded with raw minced garlic, so you can't really see it, but there's a generous amount once you dig in. There are salted shrimp and ssamjang on the side, but the sauce is savory enough on its own that you don't really need them. The sauce has a sweet and tangy soy base, and the scent of pungent raw garlic fills your mouth. It feels very familiar; it's basically the flavor of Norang Tongdak's pungent garlic chicken, but in jokbal form. I used to be obsessed with that garlic chicken and even made the sauce myself, so I couldn't help but lose my mind over this taste. The meat isn't super tender; it's cooked so the skin is chewy and the lean meat has a nice bounce to it, with no gaminess at all. Since the sauce flavor is so strong, the actual taste of the jokbal doesn't really matter that much. The mul-makguksu has a savory seasoning and an umami-packed broth with icy slush. Both the jokbal and the makguksu are heavily seasoned, so it's quite intense on the palate, but the makguksu that comes with jokbal delivery is supposed to be salty and flavorful to be good. Eventually, your mouth gets so numb that it's hard to taste the details of the jokbal and noodles, but you can just disinfect it with some alcohol. The food is generally well-seasoned, so it's a great spot for an evening drink. As expected of a popular jokbal place, there are tons of delivery orders coming in. The shop is very small with only 4 tables inside, so I recommend ordering for delivery if you can.
