Ordered: Whole chicken stew (2-3 servings) Stone pot rice The chicken stew arriving bubbling on a hot stone plate is impressive. What’s unique is the thick, reduced broth that’s closer to a braised dish than a soup. The spicy aroma rising with the steam stimulates the appetite right away. The sauce is stickier and much sweeter than expected; it’s a very bold flavor that reflects a younger palate, slightly reminiscent of the Ddojjim brand. It was unexpected since I had imagined a more rustic, old-school style, but this kind of sauce is actually great for mixing with rice. The chicken isn't super chewy or tender, but has an average texture with just the right amount of firmness. The stone pot rice is fluffy and high quality, pairing well when soaked in the sauce, and the scorched rice (nurungji) for dessert is the perfect finish. The portions are generous so I don't think it’s overpriced, but it’s a relatively common flavor considering the effort to get to this remote location and wait in line. I wish it were a little less sweet, which is a real shame.
