I was really curious about what the name meant when I first heard it, and apparently 'Gochibi' is the Jeju dialect for a family with the surname Go. That might be why there were so many unique menu items using local Jeju specialties like flathead lobster, black pork, and tilefish. I started with the softly cooked Jeju octopus and ordered the Gochibi risotto and the black pork and Hanwoo beef ragu. The Gochibi risotto is said to be a reinterpretation of Jeju momguk, and I learned that 'mom' is the Jeju term for gulfweed. Gulfweed is a seaweed like hijiki, green laver, or agar, and that green thing that looks like sea lettuce was the mom. It didn't have much of a sea smell. It went well with the black pork. The ragu lasagna was stuffed with cheese, and the texture of the tenderly shredded Hanwoo beef and black pork was really good. The lasagna was especially delicious. The interior and tables are on the very small side, so it's a bit uncomfortable for staying long. Instead, it has a cozy feel, so I think it's fine for a meal in Seochon.
