We ordered the jjamppong, ganjajang, and Hunan-style fried rice. The jjamppong broth had a distinct smokiness, and with all the seafood and vegetables, it was refreshing yet spicy. It wasn't aggressively hot, but rather a nice blend of smoky and seafood flavors that made me start with the soup. The ganjajang sauce felt thicker and more pasty than regular jajang. It had large chunks of onion that seemed to have been stir-fried for a long time, bringing out their sweetness. It wasn't overloaded with vegetables or meat, but the harmony of the black bean paste and the sweet onions made it worth eating. The Hunan-style fried rice wasn't significantly different from fried rice at other Chinese spots. Still, it had some bean sprouts and chives, and a darker color, giving it a slightly unique feel. The rice was fried until fluffy, which made it great to eat with the jjamppong broth. Hongrin is famous for its chive eggplant dumplings, and the jjamppong and ganjajang are also popular choices. The place is quite spacious and has parking, but there was a wait during meal times.
