The king tonkatsu is quite large, as the name suggests, and the meat is thick enough that just one plate is quite filling. The batter is crispy and the meat is savory, so it wasn't as greasy as I expected. The tonkatsu sauce is sweet and savory, making it a perfect pairing with the meat. What was a bit unique here is that they serve green chili peppers with the tonkatsu. Nibbling on a pepper whenever it felt greasy kept the palate refreshed, so I found myself reaching for it throughout the meal. I also tried the Hira Jjolmyeon, which had a tangy and spicy sauce with chewy noodles that went well with the tonkatsu. Since the sauce profiles for the tonkatsu and the Jjolmyeon are quite different, it was great to switch between them when one flavor became monotonous. Another feature of this place is that rice and carbonated drinks are freely available. With such large portions of tonkatsu and the option to add rice, I left feeling very satisfied. True to an old-school Western-style tonkatsu restaurant, the menu is simple and focuses on providing generous servings of tonkatsu and Jjolmyeon. The memory of pairing those massive cutlets with green chilies will stick with me.
