Located near the Sanyang-myeon Administrative Welfare Center in Mungyeong. I travel to Mungyeong often for work, so I got about three recommendations in Sanyang-myeon from a colleague (a huge Mungyeong lover). Since the weather has been chilly lately, I headed to one of them, this spicy fish soup spot. I found out it's a place locals frequent, and it's almost impossible to eat there during lunchtime without a reservation. (Lunch service ended at 1:10 PM... I almost missed it.) I ordered the large size of the mandarin fish spicy soup (Sogari maewontang). It came with three basic side dishes (squash, burdock, and kimchi). The taste was well-balanced, with neither the saltiness nor the spiciness being too excessive or aggressive. The broth was just about to become thick, which I personally found perfect. There was almost no fishy smell or off-flavor, and the finish was refreshing and spicy without being chalky. The mandarin fish was chewy and fresh, and I could tell it was well-managed. If you're visiting the area and struggling to find food, I think stopping by is a pretty good choice. (It's a small village, so hours fluctuate; calling ahead is a must!!)
