I heard rumors and it’s not too far from home, so I checked it out—but honestly, soba was just an excuse, I went to drink sake. Started with a draft beer. It was clean. Seems like they take good care of the taps. Ordered a few things and the roast duck came out first. I’m no expert, but I think it was brined, then sous-vided, and finally seared on the outside. The seasoning was perfect, made the drinks go down so easy. The side of green onions was good, too. It’s been a while since I’ve had roast duck this good. For sake, I just kept ordering the recommended by-the-glass pours. Heard the pricing was great, and it really felt like they were giving away too much. They did end up adjusting the portions after a week or two, as expected. Still, it’s a good deal. Second was the tempura. It wasn’t mind-blowing, but you can tell they use good ingredients and fry it cleanly. The vegetables were nice too. Last, since it’s a soba place, was the soba. It’s a dipping-style soba, and dipping it in the warm broth was great—sweet and rich. Actually, the soba itself had quite a bit of buckwheat aroma and was nutty, so it went well with sake even without the broth. I plan to revisit, and if you live nearby and like sake, I think it’s worth a visit at least once. I’m going back for that roast duck again.
