Even if I go late at night, there are still quite a few customers, and looking around, many people seem to have had a drink, in a lively, spirited mood. On this day, I ordered the assorted sundae platter and pork soup (dwaeji-gukbap). The radish kimchi and mild chili peppers served on the side go very well with the soup and sundae. Rather than a style that comes heavily seasoned from the start, I preferred adjusting the seasoning to my own taste. Personally, I prefer seasoning it with salted shrimp at first, and then adding a little green onion sauce halfway through to change the flavor. Starting with a mild, clean taste, and finishing it richer and spicier, makes the experience feel different even within a single bowl. With an assorted sundae platter on the table and a glass of soju with the soup, it is a great place for a light drink late at night. It is not so much a 'must-visit' famous restaurant, but the fact that it is open late at night and offers a warm bowl of soup and a drink without any pressure is what I like. It is particularly well-suited for meeting a close acquaintance without any formal plans late at night and sharing a drink while talking. For me, Okdang Sundae is not a destination I seek out with a specific plan, but more of a place I naturally wander into on a day when my thoughts are complicated. A nice place to walk, get a good meal, and enjoy a light drink with someone close. Because of these reasons, the memories attached to this place occasionally come back to mind.

Maybe that's why, rather than just going for a meal, I often head there like I'm taking a walk when I have a lot on my mind or want to clear my head. Perhaps because there aren't many gukbap places open nearby at late hours, customers occasionally come in even at dawn. When you sit down, gukbap is served along with peppers, onions, salted shrimp, and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi). The setup and the taste are both very familiar. Honestly, I don't think it's such a special-tasting gukbap place that people would go out of their way to visit. Both the broth and the side dishes are generally average. But if you consider the time of dawn, the story changes a bit. Being able to eat a warm bowl of gukbap even at hours when most shops are closed. Considering the whole process—walking slowly while clearing my thoughts, eating a hot bowl of gukbap, and walking back home— it plays a role for me that goes beyond just food. It might be just an ordinary gukbap during the day, but it becomes quite a precious meal when I'm hungry at dawn. It's not an amazing restaurant, but it's a place that comes to mind from time to time simply because it's open when I need it.
