A Place That's Serious About Sandwiches
I came across Bongbong Sandwich (봉봉샌드위치) while walking through a residential neighborhood near Jamsilsaenae. From the outside, it looks like a neighborhood café, but once you step in, you can tell they take their sandwiches seriously. The shop isn't big. If anything, its cozy size makes it easier to watch orders come in and the food being prepared. Listening to the sounds and smelling the aromas from the open kitchen builds more anticipation for the meal than you'd expect. I like banh mi and have tried it at plenty of places, but the version here is fairly traditional. There aren't any especially unusual ingredients, but everything is well balanced. After finishing the meal, I could see why the locals love this place. It may not have an incredibly distinctive character. But it's more than satisfying as a meal. That probably explains why you often hear that they sell out early.
