Plenty of Vibes, Average Flavor
A large café chain with four locations in downtown Jeonju. Even the entrance is designed to be hard to find, while the interior is a highly resonant space that almost feels like a large auditorium. The chairs and desks look like something straight out of a school, creating a strong vintage vibe. English phrases cover the interior throughout, giving it an effortlessly hip... quintessentially Instagrammable atmosphere. What I ordered: Brewed coffee — Achacha! Blend, iced Matcha chocolate financier Ube financier The coffee came out sooner than expected. My guess is that it’s kept as a batch brew and poured to order. The description of the Achacha! Blend said it had a fruity flavor and aroma, but the fruit notes were fainter than expected and hard to pick up under the acidity, which was disappointing. At this point, they could probably just describe it as an acidic coffee. The coffee itself didn’t feel watery; only the aroma seemed weak. Rather than using fewer beans, I suspect it has more to do with how it was brewed. My personal criteria for a good financier are: 1. A rich buttery aroma 2. A crisp outer texture 3. A moist interior with just the right sweetness Those three things (+ price). The financiers here have a moderate buttery aroma, an exterior that isn’t particularly crisp, and a fairly standard interior. They’re typical financiers without much to distinguish them. Ultimately, the spacious interior and hip atmosphere are this café’s biggest strengths. If you live nearby, it’s a decent, reliable spot to study or work.
